The TRUTH behind our Easter Adventure

I love Easter. So, when our calendar was empty for the Easter period 2022, Chloe didn’t take much convincing to get behind the idea of Hello Little People’s Easter Adventure. But how did we do it?

We decided on the concept in February, which gave us 2 months to create the show and put it together.

First up: the search for the venue. We knew we wanted an outdoor space where we could explore and that had lots of amazing twists, turns and hiding spots.

After a bit of research, we opened up the conversation with Milntown Estate. They were really keen to get on board, and after we had a look around the gardens, it was a PERFECT fit!

Our aims for the event were to create a fun, interactive, playful experience for children and families.

As always, we began with mood boarding images, sounds, colours and anything that came to mind to help inspire the creation of the piece.

Chloe began to write parts of the script and develop one character in particular….

We wanted to have a ‘granny’ character key to the story because we haven’t really had a character like that before. After taking some inspiration from David Walliams Gangsta Granny, we developed MADAME MCGREGOR!

Madame McGregor has quite the impact on everyone who attended the event. One child said:

“You may have got me this time Madame McGregor, but I’ll beat you at football”

And after having left Chloe alone for an hour, I returned to hear a fully formed Easter Adventure song written and ready to rock. Both the character of Madame McGregor and the song were the starting blocks for our story.

From there, we visited Milntown Gardens again and let our inspiration run wild with what fun games and activities we could bring into the quest and where they might work within the gardens. We found perfect spots for egg and spoon races, egg hunts, obstacle courses and so much more.

From there we needed to source all the props. Some of these we made with our own fair hand, like collecting rocks from the beach and painting them for our ‘find the painted rock’ section. Others we sourced, and of course we put a massive order in of CHOCOLATE EASTER EGGS!

After a few more trips to Milntown, script edits and prop sourcing, we were good to go. We invited a small audience to join a preview show the day before we opened to see how kids reacted to the adventure. This went really well and it was great to try and iron out any kinks before bigger numbers joined us over the weekend!

We had made the decision early on to cap audience numbers to ensure the event was a truly special and immersive experience for everyone, which also meant we sold out all of our tickets weeks before the event. It was a joy to share Easter with so many children and have so much fun in the amazing gardens at Milntown.

Until next time!
