Award winners! ‘Caring for the Island’s Wellbeing'

Monday 22nd November 2021

Hello Little People win 'Caring for the Island’s Wellbeing’ Award at Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence.

THE SIX STEPS OF OUR AWARDS EVENING

We are so pleased to have won the ‘Caring for the Island’s Wellbeing Award 2021’ last week. Here is our night, step by step.

  1. GETTING READY

Michelle and I finished our HLP work at 5pm on Thursday and so began the mad dash to get ready for the Awards evening! A quick pasta dish was whipped up by yours truly, and then outfits decided, our Hair and Makeup team* began to make us Awards ready!

2. PRE-SHOW RECEPTION AT THE SEFTON

We arrive fashionably late to the pre-show reception for Finalists, after car-park wars in the Villa Marina. Needless to say, despite many-a manoeuvre and 3-point turn, there were no car parking spots free - so we had to get creative and park nearby.

We ran to grab some of the free prosecco on offer, before the speeches began. Everywhere we looked it was sparkles and black ties. The Manx Oscars indeed.

3. IT’S SHOW TIME

Joining our friends at Manx National Heritage, we made our way to the Royal Hall. We were BUZZING to find our seats were right next to them! The opening video played and we made our quest to be the loudest cheer-ers in the hall known. The atmosphere was electric.

Tim Vine began telling his famous one-liners, complete with custom made props and bespoke comedy songs! We cheered and enjoyed as we learned of all the amazing work companies, charities and people across the Island have done this year and celebrated with them as they made their acceptance speeches.

“Caring for the Island’s Wellbeing” was announced. Michelle and I realised we had not prepared a thank-you speech because we were not expecting to win by any stretch! We whispered to each other quickly about what we would maybe say just in case.

4. HELLO LITTLE PEOPLE ANNOUNCED AS WINNER

WE.

WENT.

WILD.

We were so shocked and surprised to hear our name. We practically ran to the stage so that they couldn’t change their minds!

It’s true we couldn’t hide our excitement so we danced THE WHOLE WAY to the stage.

Here’s where it gets a little blurry. I think what Michelle said was…

“WHOOOOP WHOOOP. Thank you so much!! AHHHH. Buzzing. We met up with each other 18 months ago for a coffee and came up with the idea to create shows for kids on the beach. And here were our 18 months later winning this incredible award. It wouldn’t be possible without all the support we have had from so many people, including everyone who comes to see any of our shows. Can’t believe we won. WAHOOOOOOO”

5. BACKSTAGE INTERVIEWS

BANG BANG BANG. Straight into an interview with a journalist, then whisked off across the back of the stage to have a LIVE interview with 3FM. LIVE.

Terrifying!

But we made sure to enjoy ourselves and laugh, and as you can tell; we were absolutely over the moon. Watch it here:

6. AFTER-PARTY

Honestly we didn’t stop dancing from the moment that the ‘h’ from ‘hello little people’ was announced, until we went home. Manx flags held high - every person in the auditorium grabbed a Manx Flag and got waving to SWEET CAROLINE. An extra-long queue for gin and a Prom Suite disco, we celebrated each other’s wins, and nominations - and then celebrated when anyone was able to actually book a taxi.

What an absolute thrill, and an incredible time we had at the Isle of Man Awards for Excellence.

I am inspired by all of the finalists and what they have achieved. Well done to all involved!!
